Integrating wind-induced mortality into the JULES framework for realistic representation of carbon lossNatural disturbances such as windstorm are being altered mostly due to changing wind climate and topography, causing severe damage to forest structure and dynamics. The central objective of this project is to integrate wind-induced mortality into the JULES framework, improving representation of disturbance processes and their implications for carbon-climate feedback. Due to current data limitations, the project will initially utilize coarser-resolution remote sensing data to model wind disturbance. However, since the impacts of wind disturbances occur at a regional scale, the AI component will be delivered to analyse and inform these impacts at that broader regional level.
In Simple Terms...
I use AI to analyze how windstorms affect forests and carbon storage, improving climate models to better predict future climate scenarios.
