The Centre for Doctoral Training in Environmental Intelligence: Data Science and AI for Sustainable Futures provides PhD students from a range of academic backgrounds with an interdisciplinary training environment to equip them with the core skills required for a new generation of interdisciplinary EI practitioners.
Our Vision: We aim to enhance society’s resilience to changes in our environment through the development of Environmental Intelligence (EI): using the integration of data from multiple inter-related sources and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide evidence for informed decision-making, increase our understanding of environmental challenges and provide information that is required by individuals, policy-makers, institutions and businesses.
Training is provided in data science and statistics; and the ethics, governance, and responsible innovation principles related to the use of big data and AI. Students are also introduced to a range of environmental challenges. The training is designed to empower students to explore different research domains and methods, before developing their own PhD research plan and assembling a multidisciplinary supervisory team.
The first five cohorts of students were funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). Our 6th Cohort students are funded by a range of industry partnerships and the University of Exeter.
