Utilising Artificial Intelligence for Analysing Camera Trap Images

I use AI to aid conservation through the processing of camera trap data (photos). I use several branches of AI technology including convolutional neural networks (CNNs), multimodal foundation models (think ChatGPT or similar) and diffusion models to automatically sort and label camera trap photos to the species level. I use these technologies to compliment one another, generating synthetic data from diffusion models to train CNNs. I explore how foundation models could be used for this purpose, benchmarking a variety of commercial and open source offerings.
